How to Draw A Racecar – Let's Get Started!
Step 1
As we mentioned in the introduction, drawing even a simple car can be quite difficult and it doesn't get any easier when it's something like a racecar!
For that reason, we will take it slow and show you exactly what to do. When working through this guide, you should really take it slow and follow the reference images closely.
For the first step of this guide on how to draw a racecar, we shall start with the frame of the car. You will make things much easier for yourself if you have a ruler on hand for this step!
The frame is also one of the trickiest parts of this guide, so it may also be a good idea to use a pencil for now and then go over it with your pen when it's looking how you want it.
Once again, following the reference image we provided will be incredibly helpful for this step!
If you're really struggling, you could print out this first page of the guide and use it to trace over for your image. There's no shame in making it a bit easier for yourself!
Step 2 – Draw the windshield and other details for your racecar
We shall continue adding on to your racecar drawing in this next step.
There are some intricate details to this step, so like all the parts of this guide it's recommended to refer closely to the reference picture!
First, you can draw a rectangular shape for the windshield of the racecar as shown in the reference image.
Then, you can use a more rounded rectangular shape at the front of the car for the grill of the car.
Finally, you can add some straight lines using your ruler along the base of the car for some extra detailing. Once you're happy with how it looks, it's on to step 3!
Step 3 – Draw some more windows and details for your racecar drawing
In this part of our guide on how to draw a racecar, we shall be adding lots more details, so be sure to take it slow as you draw!
The main elements that you will be adding in this step are the side windows and the headlights at the front.
Then, there will be lots of angular detailing around the headlights and by the doors of the racecar. Finally, you can add a spoiler extending into the air at the back of the racecar drawing.
Step 4 – Add some wheels and grill details
There has been a lot of intricate drawing in your racecar drawing so far, so the next few steps are a little more simple! First, use some circular oval shapes for the wheels of your racecar.
Then, draw some slightly smaller circles within them to show where the rubber ends and the rims begin. We will add more details to the wheels a bit later.
Finally, draw some lines in the grill to give it some more detail and definition.
Step 5 – Now, you can add in the final details of your racecar drawing
Before you bring your car to life with some beautiful colors, you can add the final details in this step of our guide on how to draw a racecar.
You can use some lines inside of the wheels as you can see in the reference image to give the rims some more detail.
These will be drawn with some small circles and slightly curved lines leading to them.
Finally, you can add some straight lines to the hood of the racecar to finish off our detailing. Before you move on to the final step, maybe you could add some final details of your own!
Some ideas would be a racetrack background or maybe even a driver standing next to the car! How will you finish off this racecar drawing?
Step 6 – Finish off your racecar drawing with some color
